Rask gets 2nd shutout as Bruins beat Maple Leafs 2-0
Defense led both teams in a battle of the netminders at the TD Garden on Saturday night when the Boston Bruins stymied the Toronto Maple Leafs.
But it was in the same vein after what’s been a frustrating couple of months for the Boston Bruins.
“It’s really exciting, anytime you can play in a tight game like that, you really get emotionally invested in the game”, Trotman said. “My mind is already past it, and I’m already thinking about the next game”, said Chara following the win over the Wild. “We want to get ourselves close or in a playoff spot”. “I think that we all are already thinking about next game, how we’re going to be playing, what we need to do”.
Boston Bruins forward Frank Vatrano was ruled out of the Boston Bruins Saturday night game against the Toronto Maple Leafs with an upper-body injury, according to Bruins coach Claude Julien. “Obviously it’s not fun to lose in the last couple of minutes of the game, so I think we’re going to come out firing on Monday and it should be a good one”.
Boston captain Zdeno Chara had plenty of time for once, and he made the most of it.
“Well I like not being scored on, obviously”, said Chara after the Bruins won back-to-back home games for the first time this season.
The 38-year-old let out a cathartic bellow on the ice in celebration afterward like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator, and then went to the bench to give a fist bump to Bruins assistant coach Doug Houda.
Reimer stopped Torey Krug’s slap shot with about 7:20 left and got a few help on the rebound from defenceman Matt Hunwick, who kept the puck from crossing the goal line with his skate.
“That was a big celebration”.
– Brad Marchand came this close to netting one of the prettiest goals of the National Hockey League season. That rib injury has clearly healed up now, and that played into the Chara game-winning strike as well.
“I never was never shy about taking shots”, said Chara, although it was noticeable when he wasn’t fully winding up earlier in the season. “I like shooting the puck”. I like, you know, using my shot.
Julien said, “We nearly basically talked about [doing your job] at one point, that slogan resonates in our locker room because a lot of it was about that, if everybody did their job and did it well, I’m sure he [Bill Belichick] won’t mind if we borrow his slogan there for a little bit at least”. “I think he’s starting to feel better and better”.
The power play goal for the Leafs stood in sharp contrast to a two-man advantage that the Canes earned for 1:40 straddling either side of the first intermission, in which they managed zero shots on goal. They’ll next head out on a two-game road trip that will begin with a contest against the very Leafs team they defeated Saturday.
It was that kind of win for the B’s. It’s also the only way this Bruins team is going to win when they’re no longer deeper, or more talented, than everybody else. He went on to say “Our team did a good job of staying focused on what we needed to do and not getting frustrated”.
“I thought we got her going and played well in the last 40 but you know, they were able to get one goal past me”, Reimer said. “I didn’t think we were competitive enough”.
Boston is third in goals per game this season, but everyone knows that’s not sustainable.
