Steve McClaren bemoans Newcastle display in Leicester defeat
Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren has urged in-demand striker Ayoze Perez to remain with the club beyond the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old has scored 10 goals and shown much promise since his bargain move from Tenerife in 2014.
Supporters rated all 14 players used and from that there is generated the overall supporter marks for every player.
Aleksandar Mitrovic (1.9) managed to get less than 2.0 with a truly shocking display that was missing ability, focus and most of all – effort.
“Absolutely we hope he doesn’t make it, we’ll be honest about that, but we’ll have to deal with him if does”, McClaren told a news conference on Friday. We’re going to get setbacks along the way, still, before we get that consistency and today was a flawless example of that.
“It was the worst performance we’ve had this season, very disappointing”, he said.
“I look at him though, and he has still got a long way to go”.
“January is not here yet”, he said. “We will only know by the end of January, when we hold on to our best players”. “I understand the frustration of the fans and we will get back on the training field on Monday to get consistency back in our results”.
“We are wanting a front four who are consistently threatening and he is part of that”.
The Newcastle manager warned, however, that Vardy is not the only danger among the squad who have taken Leicester to third place in the table with only one league defeat all season.
