A brief bout with the coldest temperatures in eight months
Forecasters allege sub-freezing temperatures are headed for many of north & central Georgia. But the big change will be the uber cold temperatures on tap throughout the weekend.
As the surface low continues its trek northeastward, a surface ridge of high pressure will begin to build over Missouri, allowing skies to clear and temperatures to plummet.
The average first freeze in Midland is November 12th, so a bit late this time around. It was 28 degrees in Denton and Cleburne, while it was 26 in Wichita Falls, 25 in Abilene, 24 in Graham and a bitter 23 in Brownwood, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. Though temperatures will still be chilly in the low 50s, lighter winds will give the illusion of warmer weather.
Sunday night temperatures will again drop below freezing, but temperatures won’t be quite as cold as they were Saturday night. Highs in the 60s by Tuesday afternoon and potentially in the 70s by Black Friday.
The freeze arrives in the wake of a strong cold front that surged through North Texas on Saturday morning.
The middle of Thanksgiving week appears mostly dry in South MS with rain chances at 20 percent or less. “We won’t see freezing temperatures, but temperatures will be in the mid-30s and rain, so it’s going to be raw”.
