Sanders says he’d lose Democratic primary if held today
“I will not deny that if the election was held today, we would lose”, Sanders said.
All week, Clinton’s and Sanders’s camps traded barbs over middle-class taxes, an issue that Clinton’s campaign believes is a proxy for broader differences between the two candidates. Her campaign says the tax cut will be funded through tax increases on wealthy families and by “demanding” rebates from drug manufactures.
The front-runner told Democrats gathered at a rally in North Charleston that she has the “toughest” proposals for dealing with Wall Street.
“The centerpiece of my economic plan is to raise incomes for hard working middle class families so you can get ahead again”.
Though she criticizes the USA economy as being “rigged” for the rich, Clinton has lost a few support recently from party members who think she would go easy on Wall Street excess if elected.
“We can manage to do that while preserving the accomplishment of the Affordable Care Act”, she said. He also pointed out, “This is why Hillary Clinton makes so many progressives queasy”. They occasionally interjected with exhortations to “tax the rich” or protestations that corporate executives are “talking all our money”.
Clinton has said Sanders’ approach would eliminate major pieces of the health care system, including private insurance, Medicaid, the Tricare system for veterans and other coverage.
“She was waving the bloody shirt of 9/11 to defend herself, which we’re accustomed to seeing with demagogues on the right, and it just didn’t feel quite right”, said Kurt Meyer, a co-chairman of the Mitchell County Democrats in Iowa, who has not endorsed a candidate.
“Any politician that refuses to finance guaranteed health care has abandoned my patients, and I will never abandon my patients”.
“The only fix for our broken system once and for all is the prescription Bernie Sanders has so eloquently presented – joining the rest of the world by expanding and updating Medicare to cover everyone”, Ross said.
During his remarks to the crowd, Sanders also reiterated his support for legislation pending in Congress that would mandate that employers provide three months of paid leave after a family has a child.
The Clinton campaign said the proposal would not add to the national debt over time and would be deficit neutral.
Clinton says that she is the only primary candidate committed to holding current tax rates on average workers. “Some people may think the cost of that legislation – $1.39 a week – is too much”.
Both of her primary rivals – Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley – support reinstating the Glass-Steagall law, which once separated commercial and investment banks.
Clinton’s long-running ties to Wall Street are getting a fresh look after last weekend’s Democratic presidential debate.
On Saturday, O’Malley flatly said his campaign was not taking on debt to pay for travel and staff.
“My parents had a saying in Spanish – “Dime con quién andas y te diré quién eres” – which means, ‘Tell me who you’re hanging with and I’ll tell you who you are, ‘” said Alma Gonzalez, an uncommitted superdelegate from Florida.
