Christian McCaffrey’s Big Game in the Big Game Leads Stanford to Win
Stanford answered with McCaffrey gaining 44 yards on a 61-yard drive than ended with Remound Wright’s 1-yard TD run 37 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Mind you, I’m not saying they’re the two BEST teams, I’m saying if you’ve tracked the results of Cal and Stanford all season, they’re consistent-they both generally perform relatively consistently relative to talent and match-ups, if you add in Vernon Adams’ resuscitation of OR to explain Stanford’s loss last weekend.
Stanford sophomore running back Christian McCaffrey ran for a total of 389 all-purpose yards in the game, breaking his career all-purpose yards mark, including one rushing touchdown and a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, the first of his career. He was able to lead the team down the field against the Cardinal defense, a similar performance to the one he had against Oregon State last week.
When Goff bounced a 3-yard pass to Kenny Lawler, who appeared briefly open in the corner of the end zone, Matt Anderson booted a 20-yard field goal, pulling the Bears within 7-3 with 5 seconds left in the first quarter.
Full recap to follow.
Stanford scored first, going 52 yards on seven plays for a touchdown on its second possession of the game. The 16-6 defeat to the Wildcats suggested Stanford was in line for a down season, but the Cardinal have turned things up a couple of notches since starting Pac-12 play. Harris caught the ball, brought it down, but as he brought it down, Stanford cornerback Alijah Holder knocked the ball loose.
Meanwhile, Pac-12 Networks analyst Curtis Conway says that “all records go out the door” when Arizona State plays Arizona.
“When I got hurt a year ago, it was a wakeup call as far as football isn’t something that will last forever”, Scarlett said. “It’s disappointing for us and disappointing for him because he’s such a good player”.
California: RB Tre Watson.
Cal fans can only wish they had two more years of Goff.
The win also kept alive the Cardinal’s long-shot hope of getting into the College Football Playoff.
The loss lowers Cal’s record to 6-5 overall, and 3-5 in Pac-12 play.
UCLA 17, Utah 9: The Bruins’ Josh Rosen threw for 220 yards and a touchdown and the Bruins moved one game closer to the Pac-12 championship game.
The Cardinal will play two more games this year, and if they win out, and enough things go insane around them, they might have a chance to play a College Football Playoff game or two after that. Scarlett had 2 1/2 sacks against OR last week.
This would then give them a spot in the Cactus Bowl against a Big 12 opponent on January 2. Stanford all but made sure of it in Palo Alto on Saturday night, when it led from wire to wire in a 35-22 victory that clinched the Pac-12 North title, its third in the last four seasons.
After Auburn rallied from a 14-point deficit to tie Alabama at 21 early in the third quarter, the two teams traded scores and were knotted up at 28 with 32 seconds left in the game. He has just 331 yards this season and has carried the ball more than 10 times in a game just twice. Why not let the two years play out? I m not convinced it will be an issue, given that the Cardinal has been in exactly this position(losing the game before Big Game) the past four years. They’re still in need of the one breakthrough win that would show that the team’s solidly turned the corner.
