Cristie Kerr’s 66 gives her a share of the lead in Florida
Ha Na Jang and Cristie Kerr share the lead going into the final round of the CME Group Tour Championship in Florida.
Ko had a 69, and Piller shot 67.
Lydia Ko is in the money once again. I got a little bit nervous and missed a couple of short ones … Inbee Park will be among the players of all time. 016 of a stroke.
“Really good score of 65 today, so I want to feel really good”, said the current leader who played alongside Ko on the second day of action, and finished with two birdies.
Her career earnings have now topped $US5 million. Ko, the 18-year-old Kiwi wonder who has five wins this season, captured her first major title at the Evian Championship in France.
Most lucratively, she can snag the Race to the CME Globe for the second successive year and collect a US$1 million (S$1.4 million) jackpot that goes to the victor of the season-long points competition. She closed with a 68 and finished at 17-under 271 for the week. I tried to stay patient all day. She doesn’t shudder at the sight of a spreadsheet.
Shes 100 percent in the mix going into the weekend. “To know that I am the player of the year, it’s an awesome feeling”. “This is something I really, really want”. Lewis is ranked No. 3 despite having no tourney wins.
Needing to finish two strokes ahead of Park, her even par round left her short with Park shooting a solid three under par round to stop the trifecta of victories for Ko.
“My focus was really getting the 27 points”, said Park. “I would love to win”. The Player of the Year award is worth one point – Park won that in 2013 and 2014. “I got a bonus”.
Meanwhile, Lydia Ko shot a 69 to help tighten her grip on the world’s top ranking.
The 38-year-old said she doesn’t plan on slowing down soon.
On Thursday, she said hit the ball much better, although her drive on No. 18 wasn’t to her liking. Just didn’t make any. I only holed one putt that was outside 4 feet. Every putt I read, I felt confident with my read, then it wasn’t right. “I think I proved that”.
Friday, she took a step toward her first victory.
“Oh yeah”, Ko said as a glass box of $1 million in cash was handed to her. “…
“I should be proud that I’m in this position. Many times, she got homesick and wanted to give up playing golf”.
