Oklahoma Reaction: Give Sooners Credit for Winning
Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield left the Sooners’ game against TCU with a head injury after halftime and will not return.
Early in the second quarter, Mayfield was targeted by TCU linebacker, Ty Summers, on a helmet-to-helmet hit which would cause Mayfield to sit out the second half.
Air raid display: Sooners QB Baker Mayfield has played his way into Heisman consideration, especially after completing 24 of 34 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 76 yards and another TD against Baylor last week. Mayfield played the first half for Oklahoma and completed 9 of 20 passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns and ran10 times for 42 yards.

Oklahoma’s Sterling Shepard (3) catches a touchdown pass during a college football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) and the TCU Horned Frogs at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla., on Saturday, November 21, 2015. But Perine returned quickly and, on his first carry, ran for a 72-yard touchdown. “I told him to take a leave an absence and he said, ‘nope, I’m here for the long haul.’ The bottom line is, this team and this staff have fought their tails off all year”.
The Sooners were ahead 23-7 with Mayfield, who did struggle against the Horned Frogs.
Whew. OU survived TCU 30-29 Saturday night in a game of attrition. They had no timeouts left, and if we make it, they only have 50 seconds and a long way to go. On the very next play, Mayfield threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Dede Westbrook. Aaron Green ran for 126 yards and a touchdown for TCU.The Sooners have won six consecutive games since losing to Texas on October 10. Oklahoma’s offense looked in trouble early in the second half when Perine and Joe Mixon, who shares carries with Perine, went out with apparent ankle injuries on successive drives. His quarterback hurry against Baker Mayfield set up a third down, eventually forcing Oklahoma to settle for a field goal. “Now, we have to get ready for Baylor”.
The fifth-ranked Sooners (10-1, 7-1 Big 12) can clinch the conference title with a victory over the ninth-ranked Cowboys (10-1, 7-1).
The final score might not tell the whole story of the Sooners’ win. Without starting quarterback Trevone Boykin and star wide receiver Josh Doctson, TCU’s offense figured to be in trouble.
OU’s initial drive stalled at the TCU 33 and was pushed back following a 15-yard personal foul on offensive tackle Orlando Brown.
Last meeting: No. 4 Oklahoma lost to No. 25 TCU in Fort Worth 37-33 on October 4, 2014. He had Shaun Nixon open and put himself in position to make the pass on the failed two point conversion, but the OU defender made the better play, ultimately leading the Frogs to fall just short.
