Jets’ Richardson (Hamstring) Questionable; Fitzpatrick Fine
The NY Jets had two chances to tie Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.
Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien officially ruled out quarterback Brian Hoyer on Friday and named T.J. Yates as the starter for Sunday’s game against the NY Jets. Houston Texans has won a couple of its last three games and is presently tied with the Indianapolis Colts for the first place in the AFC Southern division. The hype of the day was the matchup between Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis and Hopkins with DeAndre getting the best of Revis. The Jets were 4-1 heading into that game, with Marshall having four consecutive games of 100 receiving yards or more before that contest.
Hopkins beat Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis repeatedly before the cornerback left in the third quarter with a concussion.
“I’m extremely upset today”, Bowles said, “but I’m not going to take it out here”. And he threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Alfred Blue.
Marshall himself can pinpoint the moment things changed for him and the Jets – the loss to the New England Patriots.
“The fact that they didn’t necessarily want me at the end of the year plays into it a little bit for me, just from the personal standpoint”, Fitzpatrick said. “I think in these game plan meetings he really understands what we’re trying to do with the play”. Hopkins finished with five receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns, including a 61-yard second-quarter strike against Revis that underscored the Texans’ willingness to challenge Revis with their top receiver. Ivory ran up the left side sideline for 23 yards before Fitzpatrick threw deep to Eric Decker, who drew a 44-yard pass-interference penalty.
The quarterback’s heroics were to end there as he was intercepted by Earl Pleasant and Andre Hal on the Jets’ final two possessions of the match to hand the Texans the win.
BANGED-UP: The Jets were unsure whether they’d have defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson (hamstring) on Sunday.
The climax of the game came when Rashad Greene returned a 63 yard punt to set the stage for Blake Bortles 5 yard touchdown pass to Julius Thomas with just 3:30 remaining on the clock.
The Jets offense finally clicked early in the third quarter.
NY was also banged up… again. Houston CB A.J. Bouye didn’t return after leaving in the second quarter to be evaluated for a concussion.
