Homeless Man Found Stolen Worcester Armory Weapons in NY City
James Morales was arrested in Westbury on Wednesday in connection to the theft.
The 51-year-old man was collecting cans at Mullaly Park across Yankee Stadium around 9 a.m. when he found a garbage bag that contained three guns inside.
Morales broke into the center through a kitchen window and then gained access to the weapons vault using a power saw and a crowbar.
The NY Post reported that the bag contained one M-4 rifle and two Sig Sauer M11 9mm pistols.
A former Army reservist already facing child rape charges has been ordered to return to MA to face unrelated charges that he stole 16 weapons from an Army Reserve armory.
Police said they also took a blood sample left at the armory that was traced to Morales.
Though the crime happened when the country was on edge following the Paris terrorist attacks, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said that there was “no indication” that the thefts were connected to terrorism, according to The Boston Globe. He is now charged with unlawful possession of stolen firearms and theft of government property.
He was wearing a monitoring bracelet due to his sexual assault charge and the monitoring data from the device showed that he was at the armory on the eve of November 14, a day before the weapons were discovered stolen.
