Iowa State fires coach Rhoads
Iowa State will be merely trying to bounce back from two defeats, one of which was a heartbreaking 35-31 loss to No. 8 Oklahoma State last weekend.
After seven years with the school, Paul Rhoads reportedly is out as head coach of the Iowa State Cyclones.
Rhoads, 48, will coach his final game on Saturday at West Virginia. The Cyclones then fumbled twice, allowing the Wildcats to tie the game with 42 seconds remaining and take the lead, 38-35, with three seconds remaining. Rhoads, 48, is 32-54 as the Cyclones’ head coach. He just didn’t win enough to keep his job.
The win pushes the Wildcats to 4-6 on the season, and is their first victory in Big 12 Conference play in seven tries this season.

Iowa State would get another opportunity to score before the end of regulation, but again fumbled away their chance when Lanning was sacked at the Iowa State 29 and lost the ball before being ruled down.
The win snapped a six-game losing streak by K-State (4-6, 1-6 Big 12), the school’s longest skid since 1989. The Cyclones knocked off the second-ranked and undefeated Cowboys, who looked as though they would roll right on to the BCS championship game.
Rhoads, a defensive coordinator at Pitt (2000-07) and Auburn (2008), was something of an unknown commodity when he was hired to replace Gene Chizik before the 2009 season.
