Samsung Gear VR; The Best Virtual Reality Device Of The Year

Gear VR is only compatible with the 2015 Samsung GALAXY flagship smartphones which includes Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+.

While the virtual reality device from the Korean tech giant is spec-wise behind the HoloLens that Microsoft is working on, it passes up for a more entertaining experience than with usual headsets.

Oculus promised more than 25 brand new made-for-VR games and experiences to be released for the Gear VR by early December.

Fortune reported that the Samsung’s Virtual Reality Headset can be used in many ways and can be used for more than just playing games. It’s lighter than its predecessor.

A smooth and improved touchpad and better navigation makes the VR headset even more coveted. Whereas the Rift is still mostly in development and geared more towards developers and hardcore gamers, the Gear VR, which is coming out this week, at least on T-Mobile, is more like the lightweight but still serious version.

That said, Oculus does have a hand in this device, as the Gear VR is the fruit of the collaboration between Samsung and the makers of the Oculus Rift.

Both Amazon and Best Buy quickly went through their initial stock of the headsets: at time of writing, Samsung’s official store is the only place to order the device.

Facebook acquired Oculus in March 2014.
