Luis Suarez, Neymar lead Barcelona to 4-0 rout of Real Madrid
This 4-0 victory took them six points clear of Real after 12 weeks of the season, but the real gap between them appeared much, much bigger than that.
It was another splendid outing from Neymar, who was a constant thorn in the side of the Madrid defence over the 90 minutes. “I’m thrilled. These games are double the fun and I’m very satisfied”.
It raised another question: “If Florentino Perez chose to sack the popular Carlo Ancelotti and then offer the job as Real Madrid coach to Benitez, shouldn’t he carry the blame?” The club went up early with goals from Suarez and Neymar before Iniesta had a goal after the first half. “They are our eternal rivals and we both want to win the same trophies”, added the former Spain midfielder.
Although James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema made returns from injury, it was the absence of Messi which stood out in the build up to the match, but Barcelona didn’t miss their star man as Suarez and Neymar turned in a performance of the highest quality.
“Real Madrid already have a new coach in Zidane, I believe it’s time to give him the opportunity, as Barca did with Pep Guardiola and Luis Henrique [sic]”. By the time Messi came on in the 57th, the Blaugrana were leading by three goals and cruising on the way to a 4-0 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid. “We were solid at the back and I think it was more a case of us playing very well than Real playing badly”, he said. We talked about improving at half time.
The defeat leaves Real Madrid 6 points behind Barcelona and a win for Athletico Madrid later today could push Los Blancos into 3rd place.
There was a minute of silence in honor of the victims in Paris, and a large French flag was displayed across a few of the lower fan sections as the players lined up at midfield before kickoff. The goal was allowed even though Suarez appeared to be offside.
The weekend kicked off with Eusebio Sacristan’s debut as Real Sociedad coach when his side looked for their first home win of the season against a Sevilla side that had failed to win away in this campaign.
Bale bent a fine pass to Ronaldo on the break but Navas stood up well to deny the Portugal captain’s lofted effort, and Barca had a fourth just six minutes later.
It was Suarez’s seventh and eighth goals in the last five games, and Neymar’s sixth in the last four games.
