Miami vs. Butler Basketball Highlights (2015-16)
“It was a good win for us”.
“We really had to really reach down and gut it out”, Smith said. We were up big, and then you’re down. Temple jumped out to a 12-2 lead, as Butler didn’t score in the game’s initial 3:12 and only scored once in the first 5:35.
Brittany Crain had a basket and three-pointer to cut UC Riverside’s deficit to 60-58 with 4:25 left but the Highlanders missed their last seven shots and had three turnovers. MSU has allowed opponents to make better than half their shots in the first half in all four games this season. He has secured double figures in Tech’s first three games of the season. But Missouri State (0-3) went on a 20-5 run to cut it to 54-51 on a three-pointer by Austin Ruder. The Bulldogs got over half of their points from Dunham and Jones.
Despite only trailing 36-33 at the half against #16 Utah, Texas Tech fell in their first game of the tournament 73-63.
Mississippi State: Prized freshman Malik Newman finished with 15 points on 5-for-10 shooting in 27 minutes.
This season for the Miami Hurricanes is about correcting a wrong from last season.
Once again, Aaron Ross delivered a solid all-around effort of the bench. Jordan Loveridge scored just eight on 2-for-12 shooting, but had nine rebounds….
Butler finished with a 47-41 rebounding advantage and scored 22 second-chance points. Tech converted on 18 of its 23 free throw attempts. The Bulldogs had 11 assists and 14 turnovers, while the Red Raiders had 10 assists and 10 turnovers.
NO. 13 MICH. ST. 92, ARK.-PINE BLUFF 46: Sophomore Javon Bess scored a career-high 16, and Denzel Valentine, the star of Tuesday night’s comeback win over Kansas with 29 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists, had 11 assists for the host Spartans (3-0).
Red Raiders senior Toddrick Gotcher tweeted this on Saturday: “Game tomorrow against Minnesota!”
Both teams were very bad from beyond the 3-point line. After a Ware layup, MSU’s Travis Daniels missed two free throws which could have tied the game.
Butler forward Kelan Martin, left, pressures Miami guard Davon Reed during the Puerto Rico Tip-Off college basketball tournament in San Juan, Sunday, November 22, 2015.
The Bulldogs cleared the floor for Newman who drove the right baseline during the final five seconds. Defense and rebounding carried Butler throughout the final 10 minutes of the opening half.
He was 9-for-15 from the field, including matching his career high with four 3-pointers. Smith and Evans capped the flurry with buckets to stretch the Tech lead to 37-24 with 3:23 remaining. Even with all the “momentum shifting” towards the Bulldogs, it was Miami’s point guard duo and a double-double performance from Tonye Jekiri that kept the lead in double-digits for most of the half.
Today’s game vs. Texas Tech (playing for 5th place in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off) will be broadcast on ESPNU at 1:30 p.m. CT. Listen live on 1500-a.m.
My story on matching up with the Red Raiders and former coach Tubby Smith, here. Guys like Charles Buggs and (Joey) King, kids we recruited, we know a lot of people up there. It’s good to see a few familiar faces from Minneapolis.
“We’ve got to do a better job of doing that- when we have a big lead, just step on the gas and don’t let teams come back”, Morris said. “The incentive is to leave here 2-1 instead of 1-2”.
