Brian Hoyer out, TJ Yates to start against NY Jets
Houston Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer will miss Sunday’s game against the NY Jets as he recovers from a concussion.
The second win in a row moves them to 4-6, and only just marginally behind the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans, who are both on 4-5 coming into Week 11.
With Hoyer’s status in question after suffering a concussion on Monday night, the Texans were left with just one healthy quarterback on their roster in T.J. Yates.
Yates understands his role with the team. “I don’t know if he has any weaknesses. He’s got everybody’s full support”.
The game was tied in the third quarter when the TD pass by Shorts made it 17-10.
Yates’ work wasn’t done as he found an open-enough Hopkins in the right corner to catch a 20-yard pass for his 2nd on the day and his 10th of the season. Revis left with a concussion in the third, and Nick Mangold left early in the game with deep lacerations on his snapping hand. The plays of the game were: Marcus Williams’ strip sack and recovery, Brandon Marshall’s 21-yard touchdown grab, Fitzpatrick’s 6-yard touchdown rush, Ivory’s 23-yard rush, and Bilal Powell’s 25-yard reception.
“It was just a simple go-route”, Hopkins said of his second touchdown, “just the quarterback trusting me and putting the ball up and me going out there to make a play”.
SHORTS DOES IT ALL: Shorts did a little bit of everything for the Texans on Sunday while running their newly unveiled Wildcat formation. He finished with 51 yards receiving, 26 yards rushing and 21 yards passing. Maccagnan, Houston’s director of college scouting the past four years, worked closely with Texans GM Rick Smith during their time together and counts him as one of the biggest influences on his professional life. “He threw it back to (Jordan) Todman on the trick play a year ago”.
“T.J.is a good quarterback; he threw me my first National Football League touchdown, preseason against the Vikings”, said Hopkins to Tania Ganguli of ESPN on Friday.
Midway through the first quarter, Houston embarked on a 16-play, 78-yard drive that took exactly eight minutes off the clock.
Fitzpatrick started 12 games for the Texans last season, but was lost for the season in December when he broke his left leg during a game at Indianapolis. “No”, Bowles said when asked if he was concerned with Revis’ performance. “He is in here working extra to gain a better edge of this offense, and we are doing a good job of helping him out, doing things after practice and before practice with him”. Catapano was a seventh-round pick by the Chiefs in 2013 and played in 15 games as a rookie, recording one sack and four tackles, before spending all of 2014 on injured reserve. Sanchez has thrown for 14,666 yards, 82 touchdowns and 81 interceptions, while completing 56.4 percent of his passes in his career. Cincinnati averaged 4.36 yards per carry last season.
“I think anybody would be disappointed when you don’t make a play… that was a heck of a play by that guy”, Watt said of Pryor.
The Houston Texans look to build off their win over the Bengals today when they host the NY Jets at 1PM ET on CBS.
