Hunger Games: Mockingjay 2 opening weekend collection

The series kicked off with a $152.5 million weekend in 2012 – one of the highest openings of all time.

The $101 million opening weekend gross of Lawrence’s “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2″ was the lowest among all installments of the film franchise, since “The Hunger Games”, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, and “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1″ opened with an estimated $153 million, $158 million, and $121 million, respectively.

“It’s a great accomplishment”.

“‘The Hunger Games’ series has stood as proof that, if properly handled, new massive brands can be created and can draw audiences around the world”, said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Rentrak.

Only 34 movies in history have opened at over $100 million, including all four in “The Hunger Games” series.

Sony’s R-rated holiday comedy “The Night Before”, starring Seth Rogen; Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie, finished the weekend with $10.1 million, enough for the No. 4 spot in its box office debut.

20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios’ animated The Peanuts Movie dropped to third place with $12.8 million (down 47%) as it makes a slow progress to $100 million with $98.9 million grossed domestically so far. The film had a reported $25 million production budget. “Opening early seemed like a really good prelude to the Thanksgiving weekend where it will expand beautifully”, said Rory Bruer, Sony’s president of worldwide distribution.

“Secret In Their Eyes”, a murder mystery starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman, scored $6.6 million in its first weekend.

With this weekend down 11 per cent from last year, it remains to be seen whether 2015 will indeed be a record-breaking $11-billion year as many predicted at the outset.

Jennifer said, “These movies had been my life for so long, and they had to come first in everything”, “I was also in a relationship with somebody for five years and we broke up around the same time that I wrapped those movies”. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
