Matchday: Tottenham 4 – 1 West Ham
Tottenham extended their unbeaten Premier League run to 12 matches with a resounding 4-1 win over London rivals West Ham at White Hart Lane.
Andros Townsend is expected to return to the squad after being axed following a clash with a club coach while Heung-min Son is available after recovering from a foot injury.
It could easily have already been more.
West Ham came so close to a spectacular equaliser when Kouyate crashed a brilliant overhead kick off the crossbar, although he should have been flagged for offside after Mark Noble’s blocked shot had looped into his path. I know what it means to play against West Ham.
West Ham manager Slaven Bilic admits he’s shocked by his team’s performance against Tottenham.
Tottenham cruised to an impressive victory over West Ham, with Harry Kane scoring two of his side’s four goals.
Toby Alderweireld and Kyle Walker were also on target before Manuel Lanzini scored a late consolation for the visitors.
Son played a perfectly-weighted pass inside the box and Walker nonchalantly curled the ball into the far corner with the outside of his right boot.
Lanzini reduced the deficit somewhat late on when thumping the ball into the roof of the net, yet the damage had always been done for a West Ham side who remain in sixth place. “It is impossible to bring 20 or 30 players in”, Pochettino said.
This is the most promising Spurs outfit for many a year.
West Ham’s surprising survival in the top six through the opening four months of the season suggests that they too will prove a tough opposition. In wide areas, Victor Moses tried his best but was constantly squeezed out and up front the attempt to play Diafra Sakho wide behind Andy Carroll simply never worked.
He was rushed to an east London hospital after the incident near the junction of White Hart Lane and Tottenham High Road. Lloris received a standing ovation from the home fans behind the goal and at full-time, expressed his gratitude by clapping all sides of the ground.
But despite being hailed for deploying his young players so successfully, Pochettino admits chairman chairman Daniel Levy has also played his part.
Man of the match Kane said on Sky Sports: “I enjoy the atmosphere of these games, especially when we’re at home”. These two attributes along with a good manager and a strong home support will allow Tottenham to go into this match as favorites, a title which they probably deserve.
Tottenham will be without the suspended Erik Lamela after he collected his fifth booking of the season last time out.
“We are going game by game. They wanted it more than in a normal game, but we simply were not good enough to get anything, other than being defeated”.
“Our support is very important, and after for the players and the teams”.
