Is Les Miles out at LSU, regardless of the final two games?
The TP (I will never not refer to it as the “TP” because journalism) notes one plan was circulated to allow Miles to announce a retirement following the 2016 season, but the report also correctly notes how dumb that would have been. Today’s victor can get back on track for the season, but the loser may fall out of the Top 25 entirely. Those dreams were squashed when they lost to Alabama 30-16, then couldn’t recover from that tough game and fell to unranked Arkansas 31-14.
The Tigers got off to a slow start for the third straight game, spotting the Rebels a three-score, first-half lead en route to a 38-17 loss Saturday. LSU beat writer Scott Rabalais wrote last week that Miles had lost the support of the boosters and that there was a “serious threat” to his job. The team tried to go out there and rally for Miles, but all they managed to do was mistake after mistake after mistake. But with the floor crumbling beneath him and being handed his third loss in a row, Miles should be on his way out as head coach.
LSU finished the game with 13 penalties, two of which resulted in Ole Miss first downs, for 95 yards.
Mississippi State is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, 5-2 against the spread in their last seven home games, and 5-2 against the spread following a win. Star running back Leonard Fournette, who dominated Heisman talks at the beginning of the month, has faltered as of late, too, and is now a virtual long shot to win the prestigious award.
Similarly, the passing offense has been a massive letdown for the Tigers. LSU was down 24-0 before Brandon Harris threw a touchdown pass.
That’s apparently not holding well for the LSU brass. “He’s going to be a good player”.
Regardless, Louisiana State may seriously be considering parting ways with the greatest press conference quipper of all time.
The odds of finding a coach that will win 78 percent of his games, as well as contend for a SEC title in just about any year, are even slimmer. LSU has to make a move now and ditch Miles.
It’s that time of year when rumors about a lot of college football coaches’ respective futures begin to swirl.
The Tigers were ranked No. 2 in the initial College Football Playoff ranking on November 3, but have fallen to No. 15. Ole Miss, 1-7 in the league that year, was the only unranked SEC West team.
Miles has been on the ropes before and the Tigers could still finish the regular season at 9-2 and play in the Sugar Bowl.
