Rojer and Tecau Sweep to Title in London
Dutch-Romanian duo Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau clinched the year-end number one doubles ranking by beating American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan 6-4 6-4 to reach the final of the ATP World Tour Finals on Saturday.
Following their loss in the title round of the year-ending $7 million ATP World Tour Finals at The O2 Arena here, top Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna has said 2015 has been a fantastic year for him and his men’s doubles partner Florin Mergea of Romania.
Standing in the second seeds’ way in the final however is the Indo-Romanian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea. In the second set too, it was the team of Julien-Roger and Teacu who got the first break and it stayed with them as they closed the match comfortably in their favour. The eighth seeds upset third seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo in the semi-finals, who were also looking to wrap up the season as the no. 1 doubles team in the world.
The second-seeded duo secured the only break of the opening game of the first set as Bopanna dropped serve, and the two would go on to serve out the rest of the set. Teacu sealed the first set with an ace in the 10th game.
With this win, the pair held on to their all-win record against Bopanna-Mergea.
For Mergea and Bopanna, the final in London also came after a good year.
