USA military helicopter crash kills 2 in S. Korea
Courtesy Department of Defense(YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea) – Two U.S. Army helicopter pilots died Monday after their AH-64 Apache helicopter crashed during a routine training mission in South Korea.
Yonhap news agency quoted police as saying no additional property damage or human casualties were reported.
The AH-64 Apache helicopter crashed at around 6:20 p.m. local time (0920 GMT) on the road in Wonju, Gangwon province. However, officials have been unable to confirm their identities thus far.
The names of the pilots will not be released until their families are notified, he said.
The U.S. Army command in Seoul couldn’t immediately confirm the crash. “Our first priority is to provide their families with the support they need during this hard time”. The line was among the wreckage, and the top of the tower was damaged, according to Yonhap.
The cause of the crash is not known.
USA has about 28,500 troops stationed in South Korea, according to Reuters. The two remain in a quasi state of war following the pair’s ceasefire at the end of the 1950-53 Korean War.
