When Ole Miss has the ball against LSU
“There is a video circulating around social media right now of an incident that occurred yesterday during the Ole Miss football game”.
LSU is backed into a corner after two straight losses against Alabama and Arkansas where the Tigers did not look like a ranked team, much less the No. 2 or No. 9 team in the country.
Miles denied the rumors during the SEC teleconference on Wednesday.
“I honestly have not taken those reports in”, Miles said. “I believe in the Tigers”. Today’s victor can get back on track for the season, but the loser may fall out of the Top 25 entirely. He won the BCS National Championship in 2007 and lost in the national title game in 2011.
LSU fell behind by 10 points to Alabama and 21 to Arkansas and were unable to overcome either deficit. It’s too early to bury a guy who’s had the kind of sustained success Miles has had in Baton Rouge over the past decade, especially when you consider the $15 million it would cost to fire him. They would not score for the remainder of the game, however, and the Rebels took control of the game from that point on. The Tigers have been outscored 99-47 in three straight losses to Alabama, Arkansas and the Rebels. The play was a paradigm for the kind of day the Tigers had. That hefty fee may be enough to prevent LSU officials from firing the veteran head coach, but there is speculation that it probably will not.
Similarly, the passing offense has been a massive letdown for the Tigers.
LSU quarterback Brandon Harris threw to Tyron Johnson for a 39-yard TD.
That’s apparently not holding well for the LSU brass.
However, a few influential boosters would like to see a parting of the ways now. LSU has to make a move now and ditch Miles. The Louisiana State sophomore was a lock to win college football’s most prestigious award, as much a certainty as Donald Trump saying something outrageous at his next campaign stop. However, the Rebels’ next opponent, Mississippi State, also jumped back into polls this week. To consider that the man responsible for that high ranking should be on the hot seat is simply absurd. Penalties, poor execution and miscommunication – demons LSU (7-3, 4-3 Southeastern Conference) can’t shake – doomed the team to its third consecutive loss, a slide the program hasn’t experienced in 16 years.
