Apple acknowledges iPad Pro unresponsive issue
The iFixit team cracked open the Apple Pencil, a stylus accessory created to work with the iPad Pro, to find that it is extremely hard to open, and the components inside are “impossible to remove without shredding”. It appears to affect only the iPad Pro, as the recurring freezes have not been reported in other iOS devices. “When I woke up it was ‘dead.’ I couldn’t wake it up”, wrote one user, identified only as Darkfire. It wouldn’t wake up.
Of course, the luxury of being able to use your phone while it’s charging dates back well before modern-day smartphones, so such a “fix” is sure to leave affected Nexus 5X owners quite unhappy. Came back to it, same thing.
Apple late last week posted a support page for the issue, advising users to force restart the device – hold down the home and power button simultaneously – to revive the iPad Pro.
All in all, the Apple Pencil has been a pleasant surprise for a company whose co-founder, Steve Jobs, once famously said that “nobody wants a stylus”. Right now, Apple’s official advice for those having this problem is to just perform a hard reset every time the problem is encountered. The issue came to attention when several users started complaining on various web forums and social media sites. The iPad Pro, with its powerful processor and more spacious screen, is created to run professional-grade software.
Apple has acknowledged problems with unresponsive iPad Pros in a support document, and the company said it was investigating the issue. It further couldn’t be operated or used, and the problem was recently discussed about on Apple Support Communities. It’s unclear if this is an problem with the iPad Pro hardware, iOS or both, though hopefully Cupertino can fix it without needing to recall the device.
