Paramedics in multiple downtown locations after tainted bad “spice” batch
Officers responded to multiple medical aid calls from three different locations throughout downtown of people who became sick. These two are now in critical condition.
The patients, at least five adults and five juveniles whose ages ranged from 13 to 45 years old, suffered mild to serious side effects after taking spice.
Amador says symptoms ranged from runny noses to seizures and vomiting, and two people appeared to be belligerent “almost to the point of violence”, so police were called.
Officials from the Police and Fire-rescue Department in San Diego said the incidents occurred near 6th Avenue and C Street downtown.
It’s not known how those who were sickened obtained the drug. It is marketed online and in marijuana stores under the names Annihilation, Black Mamba and Mojo. San Diego police Lt. Scott Wahl said investigators were working to track down other victims and witnesses.
Unlike natural marijuana, “Spice” is chemically manufactured and in a few cases can be 100-times more potent.
This bad batch of the Spice drug was being sold in a black package with blue dragons on the side, according to San Diego police. But authorities have warned of the health dangers of the drug that mixes herbs and chemicals.
