Hulu may launch ad-free service for about $12-$14 a month

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Hulu is looking into offering a more expensive tier that would have no ads whatsoever. You’ll have to pay a few extra bucks for the privilege of viewing ad-free.
In addition to maintaining its current $7.99 version with ads, Hulu would make a second version available for a price in the neighborhood of $12-14.
Now the Wall Street Journal reports that Hulu is considering a new option that will let subscribers pay more money in order to get rid of the ads. The biggest complaint against Hulu Plus is that you’re paying but you’re still seeing ads.
While Hulu has the strength of its own exclusive content, especially with the recent partnership with Showtime, the service is still at a disadvantage to Netflix, which offers a basic, standard-definition streaming plan for $7.99 per month, and an upgrade to HD for only $1 more. Netflix announced on Wednesday that it has more than 41 million paying subscribers in the USA, and 62 million worldwide. They’re still not as current as Hulu, but they are commercial free and that appears to be enticing droves of people to give Netflix a try.
