Hafeez won’t play with Asif
Hafeez was offered a contract by Bangladesh Premier League side Chittagong Vikings, where Amir is continuing his first-class cricket comeback after a five-year ban for spot-fixing during the 2010 tour of England.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan has said a few senior players are against Amir and other two disgraced players Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif.
Asked what his stance would be if Amir was recalled by Pakistan, Hafeez said: “We will look at it when it happens”.
Hafeez reportedly turned down an offer of around 10 million Pakistani rupees as the franchise snapped up Amir in a pre-draft deal. Recently, when the Pakistan team were practicing at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, their former bowling coach Mohammad Akram invited Aamir to bowl to Hafeez in the nets but Hafeez flatly refused to face the left-armer because of his tainted past.
“I can not play and share a dressing room with such players who have abused the spirit of the game”. He was not selected in the drafting process while other Pakistan players were chosen in the draft and big-name players like Misbah-ul-Haq and Shahid Afridi were signed outside the draft.
Hafeez said he had received the offer through an agent, without revealing any names he said he does not have an exclusive agent but the offer came through various sources.
“I was approached by my agent to play for the Chittagong team but when I knew that Amir was also in that team so I refused it point blank”, Hafeez told AFP.
“I am thrilled to play alongside a few quality players who will represent Chittagong and realize that I have been entrusted with a huge responsibility to help the team reach the ultimate goal”.
This is the first time a player from the Pakistan team has publically objected to playing with a tainted player.
“It is pretty much his personal decision”, Misbah said.
Do you think Mohammad Hafeez is right in refusing to play alongside Mohammad Amir even after the ICC cleared the bowler?
“And especially the audience, the supporters, they really need to decide”. “He bowled a very good yorker, I was set and I missed that”. This was made possible by an amendment to its anti-corruption code which allows players get a taste of competitive cricket at a lower level a few months prior to the end of their worldwide bans.
