EAGLES: Defense fails in loss to Tampa
Winston has unquestionably kicked his game into a higher gear since the team’s 37-23 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 4, leading the team to a 4-2 record in the weeks since, while averaging a quarterback rating of 70.9. That said, Mark Sanchez stunk up the joint with three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown that served as the cherry on top of Tampa Bay’s ice cream sundae.
The Philadelphia Eagles are now 4-6 on the 2015 National Football League regular season schedule after being defeated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a final score of 45 to 17. The game is also airing as a live stream online. Even later in the first half, with the screen pass to Darren Sproles, they looked competent and capable of winning.
The Buccaneers ran for 283 yards against the Eagles on Sunday. There’s more going on here than just improved offensive line play: he’s displaying more explosiveness and agility than he has in years, and he’s even making people miss when he gets hit in the backfield. That’s not news to anybody who watched it. We didn’t stop the run and we didn’t stop the pass. There isn’t one guy to point at, or one position or anything. “That is something we did not have but this coaching staff has instilled a culture that is helping us get to where we want to be”. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
“We talked about being relevant”.
But where so many times this season, the offense couldn’t get out of its own way and pull out a win gift wrapped by the defense, this time it was the defense that never bothered to give the Philadelphia Eagles a chance. “But there’s enough blame to go around for everybody”. Just like last week, Johnson found out in the minutes before the game which side he was playing. The defense has bailed the offense out many times this year, but the offense is incapable of picking up the slack when needed.
Buccaneers are no strangers to offensive woes, but with more time under center, rookie Jameis Winston is starting to create a cohesive group. Winston threw a fade to Mike Evans two plays later to get the Bucs on the board and tied the game at 7-7.
Lockett caught a 24-yard TD pass in the first quarter and carried a San Francisco defender into the end zone on an 11-yard grab later in the first half.
Bucs running back Doug Martin had runs of 84 and 58 yards in the first half alone on his way to 235 yards, the most allowed by the Eagles since Hall of Famers Emmitt Smith (Dallas, 1993) and Jim Brown (Cleveland, 1961) each had 237. And the Bucs dominated on third down, converting 10-of-16 attempts. Poor showing by the cornerback who was also the target on all three touchdowns. “I believe so, but, hey, I don’t know”, Huff said. That’s not Eagle defense.
“I’ve got tremendous confidence in Bill Davis”, Kelly said Monday during his day-after press conference at the NovaCare Complex.
It’s unlikely that Winston could have played so well without the support of his lead back.
It’s easy to see why the Eagles are beginning to question each other’s efforts after losing the ninth game in their past 14 dating back to last season. All 5 touchdowns went to different receivers and outside of the Russell Shepard TD, these throws were all extremely hard. I’ve always wanted to play here my whole life since I was a little boy.
