Elliott says he is out after Ohio State upset by MI St
O’Connor found out Friday night that he would be the starter. The Buckeyes recovered the MI State 32 and it led to Ezekiel Elliott’s 1-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal.
“I think we maybe had a couple of opportunities, but it just was obviously tough conditions to throw the ball. We didn’t – it was very conservative”. All three teams are 6-1 in the conference but MI State now owns the tiebreaker.
“We lost the line of scrimmage”, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said. The passing game was just not there.
Elliott remained consistent, with his 100-yard game streak reaching 15 before being snapped by the Spartans, but Jones clearly wasn’t playing as well as he did down the stretch last season.
Afterward, he ripped his coaches. Meyer said that the Buckeyes’ play calling was too conservative, and put the onus on himself to improve that. I’m disappointed. I’m disappointed in the play calling and the situation we were put in.
Elliott revealed after the game that he spent several days earlier in the week in a hospital being treated for a leg infection. Those things are more appropriately deal with in-house, but he’s got his rights like everybody else. And he certainly didn’t sound like a player with anything to lose with Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer. Speaking of Barrett, he had more carries on Saturday than Elliott did. “The one drive that we had where we kind of had a few momentum when we scored after the strip sack, the plays we ran, we ran a lot of gap schemes and we were gashing them”. I am not a ND hater, I just don’t see them as a Top Five team. It didn’t work out. All MI State has to do is beat Penn State, otherwise Ohio State’s game with MI (12) will decide who takes the Big Ten East.
It was not the way he wanted to go out. For the first time in a long time, Ohio State did not have a response.
In essence, it gave him a practice kick.
Musical QBs didn’t seem to help Ohio State, but until Saturday, the offense did seem better with Barrett running it. Still, something was missing.
It appeared Ohio State with their spread offense was simply not prepared to play this type of game.
Their state rival Oklahoma held on to edge TCU when Steven Parker batted away a 2-point conversion pass attempt with less than a minute left. MI State responded after each one with a 75-yard touchdown drive.
Elliott announced his intention to leave OSU after the game. Meyer pointed to the battle at the line – on both sides of the ball – as a reason why the Spartans prevailed in Columbus Saturday. It was stated as if MI State was still looking for that one.
O’Connor then hit fullback Trevon Pendleton on a wheel route for 12 yards to tie the score at 7 with 7:57 left until halftime.
