Bieber breaks The Beatles Billboard record
In February, Drake’s album collected a total of 535,000 units.
Only Justin Bieber could piss off so many people by literally just standing there.
And the impressive figures make for even better reading for the Canadian superstar, as he set a new units record for the period Billboard have been incorporating online streams and digital downloads into its chart.
Old listening records have been going down left and right this year.
One Direction, who came in at No. 2 over there, sold 459,000 units (402,000 in pure album sales) in the U.S. But DIrectioners over here will definitely be rejoicing as they got the lads to the top spot over here in the United Kingdom; the band sold 93,000 sales over Bieber’s 90,000.
The sales race between Bieber and One Direction seems to have helped both acts sell far more copies than they would have otherwise.
With the iconic sale, “Purpose” has become Bieber’s sixth consecutive number one album and his best-selling launch ever. Judging by the charts, the answer is no. The singer broke a record previously held by the Beatles and Drake this week by launching 17 hits into Billboard’s Hot 100.
Adele’s 25 has already sold at least 2.3 million in pure album sales in the US, according to Nielsen Music, and she’s poised to top close to three million before the official chart is released over the weekend (29Nov15).
Trailblazing behind One Direction included debuts from Logic, Jeezy, Chris Young, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Alessia Cara and Kirk Franklin.
While Bieber has been on cloud nine in the last week, he is expected to fall back as Adele releases her ultimate album today, November 22.
