India, Malaysia to deepen defence cooperation: Modi
Calling for greater intelligence cooperation among countries, Modi said the “Internet” must not become a “recruiting ground” for terrorism. The Prime Minister said that Malaysian CEOs have experience and expertise in areas where India has a requirement, and therefore, it is a flawless match.
Meanwhile, Modi in his speech said the Torana Gate will be a milestone in strengthening the relation between both India and Malaysia.
Modi expressed confidence of taking the bilateral strategic partnership to a new level.
They also agreed to establish mechanism for sharing of information, including for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster relief (HADR), white shipping, and establish linkages between the Centre for UN Peacekeeping of India (CUNPK) and Malaysian Peacekeeping Centre (MPC).
Modi on Monday highlighted the cultural ties of India with this southeast nation as he inaugurated a Torana gate, a traditional gateway to Hindu and Buddhist temples at Putrajaya.
Noting that Indian companies have a strong presence in Malaysia, Modi said: “Ircon is contributing to development of rail infrastructure here”.
He said he was also meeting Malaysian CEOs later today.
The declaration outlines the two countries’ interest in expanding cooperation in key areas like smart cities and urban solutions, skills development, connectivity and economic cooperation.

In an effort to further broaden and deepen the relationship between the two countries, both leaders agreed to proceed with efforts to develop the bilateral strategic partnership.
Malaysia has completed several important projects, including in the road sector, in India.
On the third and final day of his Malaysia visit, Modi began bilateral programmes with a ceremonial welcome here.
He said his government is creating an enterprise that flourished and people have the opportunity to raise their income levels.
At the address to the Indian diaspora, which mostly constituted of Malay Indians, Modi began with Tamil word “Vanakkam” (welcome) and followed it with a few sentences in Tamil, drawing applause.
Modi, who is here for a maiden official visit after assuming his post in 2014, arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday to attend the 27th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.
