It was a highly impressive showing from Ferguson, who dominated all three rounds to move his win record to six consecutive fights.

The jiu-jitsu expert, the guy who snapped arms and yanked shoulders from their sockets was now a guy of yore, essentially a mythical figure who no longer existed.

Ferguson landed a huge standing elbow to the head of Thomson, instantly rocking the former Strikeforce champion and putting into survival mode. Maybe Mir was on to something. He is a veteran who has fought for and won titles primarily because of his all-around game. In the two fights since he’s returned, the two-time former champion has looked like a new man and a fighter capable of making some noise in the quickly deepening heavyweight division.

Mir has been teetering on the edge of retirement for a while now and a defeat against Duffee might push him over the edge, particularly if it’s decisive. Having competed only once in two years, Duffee is hoping to make up for lost time beginning with an ascension into the top 10 of the division against Mir. “Some of the accomplishments they’ve had this year, I’ve showed way more emotion”, said Mir, who has two sons and a daughter with wife Jennifer, along with a son from a previous relationship of hers. I need to start moving up. The core of Mir’s game lies on the mat. He’d knocked out Cheick Kongo, a noted striker, at UFC 107. “I thought you wanted to be an athletic trainer?'” Reneau said.

“We were teaching him that Mayweather doesn’t throw a punch without a reason and that everything he did had a goal”, Reyes said. Can he have some fun fights going forward? Why wouldn’t I want to face him? And the next time he uses his hands to score a big knockout, have no doubt he’ll mention Julaton’s name.

Obviously the finish is the most important takeaway from this fight, but it has to be mentioned that Mir continues to prove his doubters wrong.
