Tony Romo’s return helps Cowboys end losing streak with win over Dolphins
His ingenuity was on display as soon as he stepped foot on the field, evading pressure and completing a pass left-handed from his own end zone.
It was apparent from the outset, while rusty, Romo would be at his play-making best.
Throughout their seven-game losing streak, Dallas has been far from ideal, but many of those losses have come as a direct result of the Cowboys’ inability adapt to their mistakes.
On Thanksgiving Dallas will host the undefeated Carolina Panthers in what is suddenly a very interesting contest.
The unbeaten Carolina Panthers opened as one-point underdogs against the Dallas Cowboys (3-7), who sit in last place in the NFC while the Panthers (10-0) are in first.
“Winning”, Romo said, “is going to put a little more pep in everyone’s step”.
But the Cowboys were clearly a different team with Romo after Brandon Weeden went 0-3 and Matt Cassel finished 0-4 filling in for him.
“And things that are said in there are between us”. You can question the likelihood of a team following up seven consecutive losses with seven consecutive wins, all because of one player’s injury and subsequent return.
They might need to sweep the final six games to end a seven-year postseason drought.
It’s the correct calculation of risk versus reward, not to mention having the command of the offense that the Cowboys missed so much in Romo’s absence.
“I told the guys … that it was really inspirational watching them”. Yes, he did get plenty of help from a much-improved offensive line and had a reliable running game from DeMarco Murray, but there’s no denying that Romo proved he’s still one of the game’s best quarterbacks.
TEXANS 24, JETS 17: In Houston, DeAndre Hopkins had two touchdown catches and Alfred Blue caught a TD pass from receiver Cecil Shorts to help Houston win three games in a row for the first time since 2012. “We don’t want that, but that strikes confidence”, said Bryant, who caught four passes for 45 yards and a touchdown on the day.
“I gave up two big plays”, Jones said Monday. He’s working. He blew the dust off, so to speak, and now all he has to do is win every single game left. In other words, Romo had the weight of the world on his shoulders today when he went against the Miami Dolphins.
“We’ve got to stop the run”, Miami defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh said.
However, with their starting quarterback in tow, Dallas was able to snap the losing streak and secure victory over the Dolphins. But can we with Romo back? Wide receiver/kickoff returner Jarvis Landry botched a kickoff return, quarterback Ryan Tannehill threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown, center Mike Pouncey got flagged for an illegal chop block, wide receiver Rishard Matthews dropped a pass on third down that would have gained first down yardage. Romo was 5-of-9 on passes thrown 15 yards or more downfield, including the two touchdowns.
“That is pretty cool, but you know what they got?” Keenum’s hands immediately went toward his head, and he had a tough time trying to get up. With just over a minute left in the half, Tannehill drove the Dolphins down the field and capped off the drive with a touchdown pass to Jordan Cameron to cut the deficit to 14-7 going into half.
Late in the second quarter, Romo engineered his most impressive drive, a 93-yard touchdown march that included overcoming a second-and-27.
