Burglar accidentally takes selfie with victim’s iPhone
Los Angeles police are looking for a suspect in a home burglary who took a selfie with the victim’s phone.
“Jason Davis was pronounced dead at a hospital at about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, L.A. County coroner”s spokesman Ed Winter said.
The officer-involved shooting happened about 2 p.m. Monday on the patio of Groundwork Coffee Co., 671 Rose Ave. Barry Montgomery said. The caller reported a man with a knife inside the shop, Montgomery said. Anyone who recognizes the man was asked to call police.
The officers ordered Davis to drop the knife, but he would not comply and began to aggressively approach the officers. One of the officers deployed a Taser, but the device appeared to have no effect on him, prompting the officers to open fire.
Police released the selfie image in hopes of identifying the burglar, who was described as a black man, wearing a dark hat. Neither the officers nor anyone in the coffee shop was injured.
Police recovered a large box cutter from the scene, according to the LAPD statement.
Per the department’s use-of-force policy, the investigation will be reviewed by the Chief of Police, the Office of the Inspector General and Board of Police Commissioners.
