Google’s “Star Wars” Promo Lets You Choose Your Side
Aside from giving you a fun, shareable avatar, Google’s Star Wars skin affects a handful of major apps, such as Android Wear, Chrome, Gmail, Maps and YouTube. Picking either side will essentially give your entire Google account and corresponding apps a makeover in accordance to whichever side you choose, so like Google states in the promo video above, choose carefully!
One of the largest film franchises, Star Wars, will be launching the seventh film in the series The Force Awakens in December, and to coincide with the release is a newly developed virtual reality (VR) experience. If you want to test out both sides, feel free to switch back and forth between the dark and light sides at will. It may take a few hours for “the Force to awaken within all your apps”. Or if you’d rather, you can join the Light side, otherwise known as the losing side at the moment (though not by much).
After choosing a side, I immediately noticed that my Gmail theme had changed.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be released in less than a month and director J.J. Abrams revealed that he is now putting the final touches on the film; but he admitted he’s terrified to release it. For example, Google Maps will show iconic Star Wars vehicles marking your location, Gmail gets a Star Wars theme and wallpaper, and if you visit Google Play, you’ll find an updated version of Disney’s Star Wars app.
Changes were also made to Google Chrome, Chromecast, Calendar and Waze.
Of course, it’s also Doctor Who’s 52nd birthday today, but Google even forgot to send a card, so they’re clearly too busy craving excitement and adventure. The Millennium Falcon in Cardboard would be sweet! Google says it’s got more coming between now and opening night for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December.
