Robin van Persie fee not agreed with Fenerbahce

The height of his season was probably the last minute equaliser at home to Chelsea, but there was a nagging feeling throughout the campaign that Van Persie was thinking of a move away.

Ultimately, the disappointment of Ferguson’s retirement looks to have been the final nail in the coffin for Van Persie’s Manchester United career. As reported by The Guardian, the 31-year-old arrived in Turkey over the weekend to finalize his transfer from the English club. For those of us with short memories it would be easy to say that Van Persie was a flop, and giving the money he earned, should have produced the goods for more than one season.

The Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea has also been included on the trip but his presence will have no bearing on his long-term future at the club with Real Madrid still interested in signing him.

It seems though, that the lure of first team football and an extended contract were enough to convince van Persie to take such a sizeable wage cut. The Turkish side had also made global headlines in this summer’s transfer market with the signing of Manchester United’s Portuguese winger Nani.
