Fitzpatrick should start for Jets after surgery
He gives the Jets something they don’t get from Smith: a quarterback with strong intangibles. Any defense will struggle when they have to get right back on the field that quickly after getting a stop. They haven’t allowed a 100-yard rusher, and have recorded double-digit fantasy days in each as well. Bowles did not outright deny the chance of seeing Smith as the Jets starter again when answering the question.
Fitzpatrick was playing against the team that traded him to the Jets for two late conditional draft picks after going 6-6 as the Texans starting quarterback in 2014.
Do you sense a trend?
“I left Houston on very good terms”, Maccagnan said, “so I have a lot of friends there”. Fitzpatrick played with the Bills for four seasons, and helped Houston to a 23-17 win over Buffalo last season in his first game against the Bills. At 5-4, the Jets are tied for a Wild Card spot in the AFA, but a loss to the Texans could really derail the Jets’ season. Chris Ivory leads the Jets rushing attack with 643 yards and six touchdowns and Brandon Marshall is the top receiver with 57 catches and six touchdowns and Eric Decker has 42 catches and seven touchdowns.
“When we meet every Monday, our discussion involves who starts at every position”, Bowles said, via NJ.com.
That was followed by a 12-second pause. But it’s hard to blame Fitzpatrick for dropped passes, poor protection and a defense that’s underachieving.
Of course, another of Fitzpatrick’s best weapons earlier in the season was an efficient running game. They can start to put this tough stretch of games behind them by defeating the Texans on Sunday before another big game with division rival Miami Dolphins in Week 12.
In the first five games of the season, the Jets ran the ball 163 times for 730 yards (4.5 yards per attempt, 146 yards per game), but those numbers have dipped to 123 attempts for 390 yards (3.2 yards per carry, 78 yards per game) in the past five games.
With that kind of production, it’s no wonder the Jets have five losses.
As much as I hate to admit it, I think the Jets should stick with Fitzpatrick for at least one more game.
I think this also has to do with the alternatives. The past couple of weeks, we haven’t done it whether it was one person here or there, one assignment here or there, whatever the case may be.
