Destiny 2.0 update will change every weapon in the game
Bungie‘s made a decision to buff rifles all over again. Players will have the option to mod these weapons and make up for that new deficient going forward.
Hardlight is getting an increase in stability, Necrochasm is getting improved stability too. Landing shots at optimal range is unaffected, but repeated precision hits require more weapon control to land consistently.
Reduce damage against AI combatants by 10%.
Of course, with the weapons supporting a range of applications and abilities, this has also meant some imbalance, especially with the aforementioned Thorn, which has emerged as the go-to gun for many players in competitive multiplayer.
Meanwhile, exotics like Thorn and Ice Breaker are getting nerfed, while Hard Light, Nechrochasm, No Land Beyond are getting boosts as they are now under-used by players. With the potential to have nearly maximum stability (and thus nearly no recoil), and infinite range, Hard Light will at least behave like it’s actually shooting light at people. Plus one of your bullets will no longer be glitched and deal extra damage when it shouldn’t. It’s will be the largest update that Bungie has made to the game to date.
Although the list and explanation of the weapons re-balancing is quite extensive, overall, Weisnewski says they want to preserve the functionality of the weapons but at the same time do not want players, especially when in PVP mode, to be excluded from player-to player-combat, simply because they do not have certain weapons. Magazine size has been increased and its accuracy has been reduced.
This is a net buff for Thorn’s DoT, but reduces the lethality of the weapon in PVPIce BreakerWe’ve all done it. Hunker down in the back of the map with your lunch box, picnic table, a sci-fi paperback, and Ice Breaker. This should prevent Hawkmoon from one-hit killing full health players in PVP. The recharging ammo of Ice Breaker has become a staple for the PvE game. In that moment there is an interesting tension at play; you need to think about how you spend your next few seconds while it recharges.
Increase time decay of The Master to 8 seconds. Was one round every five seconds.
If Destiny had a nuke it would be the “Ballerhorn”. Yup, they’re nerfing the damage dished out by Destiny’s most sought after PvE weapon, Gjallarhorn. The developer explained, “What we did not intend, and what we unfortunately saw, was pick up Raid and Nightfall groups gating participation based on whether or not players had this weapon”.
If you have ever touched Destiny, you may have heard of Gjallarhorn. In the new world Gjallarhorn is still worthy of its legacy as an exotic Heavy Weapon, but we hope it promotes inclusive behavior rather than exclusivity.
Head on over to Bungie’s lengthy post to see all the changes.
The expansion will also introduce some surprise changes linked to weapons that the studio is not yet willing to address.
Weisnewski concludes that Bungie will be monitoring player’s reactions to the changes.
“We playtested these changes every day, multiple times a day, in all activities, using all kinds of weapons”.
