Jamar Clark Shooting: Several People Shot Near Black Lives Matter Protests In
Two were dead, and another was taken to the hospital.
Those who were shot were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injures, deputy police chief Medaria Arradondo said, as cited by the newspaper. Eventually, the three people left the crowd and began walking down the street, and a few protesters followed.
The woman was partially undressed but did not remember anything.
When authorities arrived they located a passenger auto with three people inside.
The scene early Tuesday was quiet, with about 200 people milling around and talking.
Police have denied that Clark, who died the next day from a gunshot wound to the head, was handcuffed when he was shot.
The state agency that’s investigating the shooting, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, said it’s looking into whether Clark was restrained.
The shooting of Jamar Clark, 24, on November 15 sparked more than a week of protests amid questions over whether he was handcuffed at the time and demands from protesters that authorities release videos of the incident.
But Sutton says that in light of the shooting of five people near the 4th Precinct sit-in, the family believes the demonstrations there should be ended “out of imminent concern for the safety of the occupiers”. The BCA has said it also has video from a mobile police camera, public housing cameras and citizens’ cellphones, but that none of it shows the event in its entirety.
Black Lives Matter had previously planned to announce “next steps” on Tuesday morning following a weekend meeting with community members about strategy.
An investigation is now underway.
Dayton has said he has urged that tapes be provided to Clark’s family and released publicly when they would not jeopardize a USA investigation.
