James Bond Spectre Indian 1st , Opening weekend Box Office collection
The 24th film in the Bond series, the fourth consecutive Bond film for Daniel Craig (reportedly his farewell too as Bond), is a spectaculary boring effort.
However, it still managed to have the highest box office opening ever for a Bond film in India. This week, James Bond was no match for Jennifer Lawrence, as the verbosely-titled The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 absolutely destroyed every other movie at the box office this weekend, pulling in over $101 million.
Spectre was the largest 2D Hollywood release in the country with Sony Pictures India bringing the film in high-quality 2K digital format to over 1,000 screens in four languages-English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
“We are very happy that ‘Spectre‘ opening in India is mirroring its global success”. The film was hugely anticipated and the masala actioner has connected with audiences across India. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as Spectre.
Meanwhile, back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond’s actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Salman Khan-starrer “Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo”, which was released during the Diwali weekend (12 November), was the only competitor.
For Bond fans watching the film at Cine Prestige at Cavendish in Cape Town over the opening weekend, look out for Photo Bomb to capture a 007-styled selfie.
