Futurama to be resurrected as a mobile game
Good news, everyone! Futurama’s coming to a mobile device near you.
“Futurama: Game of Drones” will travel with the Planet Express crew in fighting their enemy, MomCo. The story will see the Planet Express gang taking on their longtime nemesis MomCo in a delivery war, with players asked to connect groups of delivery drones to solve puzzles as they “venture into iconic environments from the Futurama universe”. Back in 2003, an action-platformer by the same name for the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox was released to mixed response. The Fox franchise has been delivering quality mobile games in the past and that includes “The Simpsons: Tapped Out” from EA and “Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff” from TinyCo.
The cancelation of Futurama – for the second time – is considered by many to be one of life’s great injustices.
Information is pretty thin at this point, but Futurama: Release the Drones is in development at Wooga for release on iPhone, iPad and Android.
Release the Drones will feature an original storyline co-written by Dave Grossman (writer of games The Wolf Among Us and Secret of Monkey Island); Game of Thrones: Ascent writer Jonathon Myers; and Patric M. Verrone, who wrote for the original “Futurama” TV series. Right now, there’s no release date or mention of which mobile operating systems it will be playable on. It ran through its seventh season until 2013, before it was cancelled once again.
