Nitish Kumar takes oath as Bihar CM for fifth time
On Sunday, the Janata Dal-United described the younger son of former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav as someone with a bright future who should be given time to prove himself on the political front.
Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Shrawan Kumar, Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lallan and Jay Kumar Singh, all members of the outgoing cabinet, will also find a place in the new Ministry.
Another BJP leader G.V.L Narasimha Rao congratulated the new government in Bihar and also hoped that the unlikely coalition of two divergent parties must fulfil the aspiration of the people of Bihar. In the recent Bihar assembly polls, the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) won with 178 seats, defeating the BJP-led NDA, who managed just 58 seats. Lalu Prasad’s sons earned the maximum applause after the chief minister from the boisterous crowd.
The PM has chose to depute Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu to represent the Union Government at the ceremony on Friday, which would be a gala event with Chief Ministers of nine states attending it. This time, he is heading an alliance government with the RJD and Congress.
With the realisation that his cricket career is nowhere near success, Tejashwi chose to follow the footsteps of his father Lalu Prasad Yadav and ended up becoming the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar at 26, probably the youngest one. Tejawi will become Deputy Chief Minister.
Nitish Kumar will continue as the Bihar CM for the fifth time.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also confirmed that she would attend the ceremony.
Nitish Kumar reaches Gandhi Maidan. Lalu Prasad’s elder son Tej Pratap was made the new Health minister.
The others were CPI-M’s Sitaram Yechury, CPI’s D. Raja, former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Ghulam Nabi Azad, M.K. Stalin of DMK and former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit. Many agree he is politically sharp, articulate and could turn out to be an able foil to Kumar who has allocated the important portfolios of road construction, building construction and backward welfare to him.
Nitish Kumar personally telephoned and invited Modi to the oath taking ceremony but the prime minister expressed his inability to attend because of his previous engagements, officials said.
