No. 9 Tar Heels beat Northwestern 80-69 in CBE Classic semis
The Tar Heels worked their way past Northwestern 80-69 in the semifinals of the CBE Classic at the Sprint Center and will take on Kansas State in the event’s title game Tuesday at 9 p.m.
Paige’s absence was magnified in Saturday’s stunning 71-67 loss at Northern Iowa – a game scheduled as a homecoming for the Iowa native. “I told them earlier in the week, ‘We’ve come too far to only come this far.’ We still have our blinders on and our heads down and continue to be focused on the job at hand”. Like coach said, it’s all about taking [advantage of] chances.
Come talk about the game with us below. Senior Alma Fenne is the one-year wonder for the Orange, leading the team in goals (18) and overall points (45).
4 North Carolina scored early and never let up in its 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina Sunday night at Fetzer Field in the second round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship.
Williams says there’s still plenty to work on for his squad.
NC State’s going to need a great effort from its defense on Saturday to slow down what has been one of the country’s best offenses. The game will be the first of two, with Rutgers also playing Wednesday against either Clemson or UMass in either a championship or consolation game.
Defensively, the Syracuse Orange feature the league’s No. 99-rated road run defense, allowing 218.5 yards per game. Everybody wanted me to be anxious about (Jackson).
Williams lamented that the Tar Heels had not shot the ball very well the past few games.
“This is the first game all year where we’ve played against a zone the entire game”. “Down the line I think that’ll really help us”. “We got a trophy and we got the first-place trophy”. “Just because somebody goes zone doesn’t mean we shoot the 3-point shot all the time”.
Here I am, in the second-best region for BBQ I’ve been in today (woke up in the middle of North Carolina, after all, before getting on the plane). We’re not going to quit. We wanted them to shoot jumpers and they were seven of 24 from 3 (3-point range). “I thought Jackson’s activity along the baseline, his cutting and his offensive rebounding was the difference in the game”.
The Cats held the lead for just over three minutes until North Carolina went on a 14-1 run to gain a 43-36 advantage at halftime.
Johnson, the senior forward who scored 10 points on Monday night, said recently that hasn’t felt in sync without Paige on the floor. “Very disappointed in me, more so than my team”, Williams said afterward. Led by Jackson, UNC pushed the lead to as much as 20 points with 8:42 left in the game.
Northwestern: The Wildcats have won once in five tries against North Carolina. “Things kind of opened up for me in the second half”.
The Tar Heels started well enough on Monday night and led by 10 points less than six minutes into the game.
Out of the locker room for the second half, Northwestern’s Tre Demps got warm real fast.
Joining the starters in double figures was junior forward Isaiah Hicks (4). Northwestern responded with a flurry of threes to cut the lead to one.
