Suspect ID’d in New Orleans shooting
“He is an outstanding student who represents the best of Tulane in every possible way”, Fitts said.
New Orleans police have arrested a suspect accused of shooting a medical student who stopped a woman’s apparent kidnapping.
I know you share my gratitude and relief that the suspect in Friday’s shooting of Tulane medical student Peter Gold has been arrested.
“It is clear this is a risky individual who doesn’t value the lives of others”, Harrison said, adding that anyone who is hiding or housing Cain will also be charged.
Tulane University and the police department are offering $US12,500 reward for any information about the shooter, who is still on the run. He was booked on counts of attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery with a firearm, attempted armed robbery with a firearm and second-degree kidnapping. “If the public helps us, we will find him sooner rather than later”, Landrieu said. “We will catch them, and bring them to justice”.
Peter Gold, 25, a fourth-year Tulane medical student, is expected to make a full recovery after being shot in the stomach, ABC News reported.
Flot stated that the Cain responded by flying into a rage and shooting Gold in the stomach.
Warning: This video contains graphic images of a man being shot.
Gold’s friend and classmate Ryan O’Halloran told ABC News that it “Doesn’t surprise me that he would have pulled over his vehicle and attempted to save somebody”.
New Orleans police said Cain then demanded money from the student. On the video, a man approaches the woman before dragging her down the sidewalk toward an SUV.
Early this morning, detectives recovered the SUV in the 2200 block of John Raphael Place. Twenty-five year old Euric Cain was arrested this morning. There’s no audio, but police said he was explaining that he didn’t have any cash.
Below is the video of the robbery.
Tulane President Michael Fitts said in an emailed message that Gold’s condition continues to improve and he remains in guarded condition. Police said the man quickly confessed to the crime. The woman was treated for minor injuries and subsequently released.
“You can call it divine intervention, you can call it pure luck. whatever it was, we’re just thankful it happened”, said Baker.
