Haye to meet De Mori in January
Bermondsey heavyweight David Haye will make a return to the ring on January 16 after more than three years of inactivity inside the ropes.
His last fight was against Dereck Chisora, who he knocked out in July 2012 and he appears confident he can do the same to De Mori.
He has been training with Shane McGuigan, son of Barry, who trains the Irish world champion Carl Frampton, at his gym in Battersea.
De Mori, who is ranked in the top 10 by the WBA, said: “I’ve finally got my shot”.
“Please sit back and get ready for another fun-fuelled heavyweight campaign to the very top”.
“It’s been a long three and a half years out, with many ups and downs, but The Hayemaker is finally back, and ready to do what I do best”.
But after a short few words at the announcement press conference, Haye and De Mori were head-to-head and it appeared that De Mori pushed his forehead against the Brit’s.
David Haye is now trained by Shane McGuigan. De Mori looks to me to be someone around 28 rather than 33, and he might be the much younger fighter when the two of them get inside the ring and start trading bombs on January 16th. “To all my Aussie brothers and sisters make sure you see this fight live, it’s going to be brutal”.
He was twice forced to scrap bouts with Tyson Fury due to a shoulder injury and announced in 2013 he was hanging up his gloves on medical advice.
“I believe I can achieve again all that I did in the past with world titles at cruiserweight and heavyweight”, Haye said. After two successful defences he went into a unification bout with Wladimir Klitschko in Germany in 2011, where he was well beaten on points before blaming his disappointing display on a broken toe.
Do you like this as Haye’s comeback fight? The sole loss on De Mori’s record came way back in 2004, in just his eighth pro fight, when Jason Wyborn stopped him in the opening round.
