Titan joins hands with HP to launch smartwatches
The collaboration with the world’s fifth largest watchmaker is part of the company’s program Engineered and will develop a new range of smartwatches.
Titan Co said in a statement that this new relationship between HP Inc. and Titan combine innovative materials, design and custom technology to deliver products that are responsive.
India is likely to become a big market for wearable technologies, which includes smartwatches and digital fitness trackers, with consumers showing an increased interest in these latest smart connected devices.
Titan now joins other traditional watchmakers, such as Tag Heuer, who are expanding into the smartwatch business. Titan itself is a joint venture between the Tata Group and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation.
According to Titan Co, they along with HP plan on launching the watches in India, as well as worldwide markets, but there has been no mention of the smartwatch lineup coming to the United States or other western markets. While Titan may not be a household name in many countries, it still sells over 15 million watches a year. Interestingly enough, though, Ravi Kant who is the CEO of Titan’s Watches and Accessories division states that their plan is to make these watches available “across the world” as well as India, so there may be a chance that U.S. consumers will be able to get their hands on them without having to import. “They can still wear a drop-dead gorgeous watch on their wrist infused with “smart” technology for a new era of access and connectivity”, he added. Sharing a similar sentiment, Sridhar Solur, general manager, wearables and smart platforms, HP Inc, noted that in order to flaunt a smart watch, consumers often have to compromise with the look of the product.
