Sam Bradford: Back at practice
He was a limited practice participant Monday, participating in individual passing drills and some team drills in the light, day-after-game workout. Kelly also said it’s a short work week.
There is also the issue of Bradford’s left (non-throwing) shoulder, which Eagles coach Chip Kelly said last week can’t be worked on until Bradford progresses in the protocol. We’re going to go out and walk today. “I’m done with the updates”. You guys can get it done. I gave you an update last week and I was wrong. “I was wrong. I don’t want to be wrong again”. Fifteen minutes later, there was Peters, ankles taped, participating in practice. “But that’s no different than our first year here – we had 11 new starters so I think it’s our responsibility as coaches to put them in position to make plays”.
Sanchez completed 26 of his 41 passes for 261 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.
“I think they’re one of the best we’ve seen”, quarterback Mark Sanchez said. “I think we have a really good football team”.
“I’ve got tremendous confidence in Billy Davis”, Kelly said. Running back Ryan Mathews didn’t practice Monday. His status for Thursday’s game is very uncertain…. DeMeco Ryans (48 snaps vs. Dolphins) and Kiko Alonso (30) will rotate in at inside linbacker as well.
Dolphins All-Pro DT Ndamukong Suh nearly single-handedly demolished the interior of the Eagles’ offensive line last week, grounding the run game to the tune of a 2.3 YPC average. DeMarco Murray could see an increase in touches today. Sanchez’ demonstrative reaction may have been the result of three interceptions on the day, but on this particular interception Sanchez explained that he expected Sproles to continue to run through the screen pass, but Sproles expected Sanchez to throw the ball directly, instead of being led. Darren Sproles ineffective as a punt returner too.
Is Chip Kelly planning to move on from his big offseason acquisition Sam Bradford? Running game never could get going because of score. He tied Matthew Stafford’s rookie mark in the third quarter on an 8-yard toss to Cameron Brate, the fifth receiver to catch a TD.
Sanchez didn’t play all that well last Sunday, but Bradford has hardly set the world on fire this season and the Eagles may need to decide if playing him at less than 100 percent gives them a better chance to win in Detroit. Eight of those nine completions went for first downs.
PK Caleb Sturgis missed a 32-yard field-goal attempt. But with the exception of a 39-yard kickoff return by Josh Huff, the Eagles’ return game wasn’t very productive. He opted not to blitz Winston and Winston picked the Eagles apart.
