Giovani dos Santos: LA Galaxy sign yet another star player
On Wednesday the LA Galaxy officially announced the signing of Mexican worldwide Giovani dos Santos to a Designated Player contract.
Jun 27, 2015; Orlando, FL, U.S.; Mexico forward Giovani dos Santos (10) reacts after he kicks the ball against Costa Rica during the second half at Orlando Citrus Bowl. “He has experience and success competing at the highest level and we believe he will only continue to develop”.
Dos Santos, 26, never really settled in while playing in Europe, failing to sustain form.
The 26-year-old dos Santos spent the last two seasons with Spain’s Villareal, scoring 12 goals in 58 La Liga appearances.
It will take a little bit of time before Dos Santos can make his debut for the defending MLS Cup champions and the city of Los Angeles. He will be part of a talented squad that also has Robbie Keane up top and should rival any team in MLS for the most lethal attack. According to the club, he will be available in August to start his LA Galaxy career, due to the Gold Cup and visa regulations complying with Federation Internationale de Football Association policy. He then won the 2005 world championship with the country’s under-17 team and followed that up with a Federation Internationale de Football Association World Cup Under-20 quarterfinal showing. His first goal for Mexico came in 2009, when he recorded a brace in a match against Venezuela.
LA Galaxy may have a new star signing, but they may also be holding their collective breaths.
Over the past three years he has collected 18 goals and 18 assists. “There’s no question about it. He has the right mentality, he has the flair, and I’m sure that Galaxy fans are going to be excited to see him play”.
“It’s certainly looking like exciting times for the Galaxy”, Keane said.
