After Paris attacks, US Republicans defy Obama on Syrian refugees
President Barack Obama on Wednesday slammed U.S. “hysteria” about the security threat posed by Syrian refugees as Republicans sought to freeze a program to resettle them in the wake of the Paris attacks.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley was the first state leader to make a statement refusing to accept Syrian refugees into his state.
Refugees are screened by several different agencies.
It’s definitely not easy to move to the United States as a refugee. Heidi Smith, director of refugee services for Catholic Charities Indianapolis, said the organization is waiting for guidance from the State Department and the national organizations that oversees the program, including the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Fingerprints are taken, biographical information is collected.
This is followed by a series of interviews with the nearest U.S. Embassy or consulate. They were in Syria.
Also, it’s not like we’ve shut our doors until now; we have already been offering asylum and have taken in over two thousand refugees so far.
“There are people with children in their arms who are fleeing terrorists…” His comments may lead to comparisons to the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq ordered by his brother, former President George W. Bush.

There have been indications one of the Islamic State attackers in Paris carried a Syrian passport and may have arrived in France alongside refugees. NPR’s Brian Naylor reports.
It means the 10,000 Syrian refugees that President Obama has committed to resettle next year have likely been in progress for some time. “They don’t understand that the refugee program has been going on since 1970”.
“Best case scenario, they are economic migrants”.

Cynthia Leigh, an immigration attorney in Austin, said advocates for refugees “deplore this sort of announcement”.
The United States has accepted almost 2,200 Syrian refugees since the conflict began there in March 2011, according to government data – and that number is expected to grow significantly in the current year. That process takes anywhere from 18 to 24 months before a refugee from any part of the world is allowed to enter the United States.
The more we alienate refugees, Muslim or other, the more we fuel the feeling of helplessness, degrade their humanity and increase their suffering. The one Democrat on the list, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, is now seeking a U.S. Senate seat. The USA doesn’t have the capabilities, the footprint on the ground in Syria that it’s had in other places.
“It’s just a highly irresponsible policy to open the same flood gates here, on our shores, when our government can not properly vet these people”, said Republican State Representative Jay Rodne on the Dori Monson Show.
