Paramount and Hasbro launching writers rooms for GI Joe and Micronauts
Paramount has released two live-action G.I. Apparently so pleased with his success leading the Transformers writers room, he will go on now to run a similar project for GI Joe, and then again for Micronauts when time comes to develop that property for film. Hasbro president Stephen J. Davis was the person to break the news about “Transformers 5” being the first of a big lineup of “Transformers” movies. It seemed to be a successful strategy, as Paramount now has plans for at least five new Transformers sequels. It makes sense, as the studio has been struggling to figure out where to take the franchise for a while now. Get read for a G.I. Either way, it looks like moviegoers can expect several more installments from G.I. Joe in the near future. According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are having the Academy Award victor lead the writers room for “GI Joe” and “Micronauts”. Now Goldsman will also be in charge of that room, with other writers still to be announced. As a result of their efforts, Paramount is planning a fifth Transformers film as well as an animated “origin story” film that will be set on the Transformers’ homeworld of Cybertron. Moreover, attempts to revive Micronauts in the early aughts largely failed. Deadline says Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway will write the Transformers 5 screenplay with Black Hawk Down scribe Ken Nolan.
Surely, this is only the beginning, as Hasbro has plenty more in their arsenal, including “My Little Pony”, which is being developed with Lionsgate, and will hit the big screen on November 3, 2017.
