Arsenal lose Coquelin for two months
Arsenal’s holding midfielder ruled out after he sustained a knee injury against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Saturday.
The club is facing a mini-injury crisis with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin (injured at the weekend), Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott, Oxlade Chamberlain, Tomas Rosicky all missing for the club.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher feels that Arsenal needed to sign Morgan Schneiderlin in the summer, regardless of the fact they boast Francis Coquelin, and says the now Manchester United player would have suited the Gunners perfectly. “Sometimes it is an opportunity for others to show they can do the job”.
“I’m always a bit cautious”, he said when asked about the seriousness of Coquelin’s injury.
“It certainly won’t be easy and I don’t intend to put any more pressure on Arsene with this, because he’s under enough already – January is clearly his most important transfer window in years”.
Despite recording good statistics in his first two seasons in the Premier League, Mesut Ozil was underwhelming at times considering the £42.4 million Arsenal paid Real Madrid for his signature.
Wenger admitted it is a “difficult moment for us”, adding: “In the last two games we took one point out of six and that is very disappointing when you are on such a great run”.
November will also typically feature two Champions League group stage games and possibly a League Cup tie to contend with on top of league commitments.
“It is of course a disappointment to lose him in the longer term but we have in the squad the players who can compensate”, Wenger assures.
Despite that, Dinamo have not been disqualified from the competition as three or more players must test positive for such a punishment to be doled out.
Speaking to the BBC, he said: “We did give everything until the end”.
