Justin Bieber’s ‘Purpose’ beats One Direction to top of Billboard 200 chart
Netizens slammed Justin Bieber when he wore a Nirvana shirt as he strolled at the 2015 American Music Awards red carpet.
“Purpose”, the fourth studio album by Bieber, sold 520,000 albums, 602,000 songs and was streamed 100 million times in its first week, totaling 649,000 units, according to figures from Nielsen SoundScan.
Justin Bieber’s “Purpose” defeated One Direction’s “Made In The A.M.” for the No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. The 21-year-old Baby hitmaker was filmed serenading the 23-year-old singer at the Montage Hotel on 20 November in Beverly Hills, California. The number includes the 522,000 actual copies sold, plus streams and track downloads.
Coming in at #2 was One Direction with Made In the A.M.
Despite both acts doing impressive numbers, they are nearly certainly going to be blown away in next week’s charts on both sides of the Atlantic by Adele’s 25, with early indications showing it is on track to be the fastest-selling album EVER. “Purpose” also saw the biggest opening since Taylor Swift released “1989” previous year, and was the largest opening for a male since Eminem’s “The Marshall Mathers LP 2” came out in 2013.
Only Justin Bieber could piss off so many people by literally just standing there. “What am I feeling?’ and basically just poured my heart out into this album and made something real”, he added. Only 50 Cent and the Beatles have pumped as many singles into the top five.
The Billboard 200 chart tallies units from album sales, song sales (10 songs equal one album) and streaming activity (1,500 streams equal one album).
