Narendra Modi leaves Singapore for India
Modi and After the signing of the documents, external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted that the two prime ministers noted the importance of culture between the two countries and encouraged more exhibitions, exchanges and interactions.
Invoking the legacy of late Lee Kuan Yew, referred to as the founding father of Singapore, the Prime Minister stated India must study from Singapore.
During his two-day visit, Modi delivered a speech at the 37th Singapore Lecture and visited Little India with Lee and his wife on Monday.
“A significantly large number of Indian companies are registered in Singapore”.
The prime ministers also said Malaysia has agreed to enhance cooperation in traditional medicines such as Ayurveda and Siddha under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme.
Singapore is one of the top destinations for Indian investment.
“Singapore is a major partner in nearly every area of India’s transformation”, he said.
A joint statement released after the talks said both sides expressed “strong condemnation for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and called upon all states to reject terrorism and bring perpetrators of terrorism to justice”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier in the evening also visited Indian National Army Memorial to pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom.
Highlighting the successful moves made by his government in the past few months, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tried to connect with the Indian diaspora in Singapore and said he wants to work on the paths of development.
Modi said in his banquet address: “There can be no place like Singapore – a symbol of aspiration for people and a source of inspiration for nations…”
The prime minister bowed before the photograph of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose placed at the memorial. India regards Singapore as an essential ally in the implementation of its ” Look and Act East Policy”. “We are also working hard that the benefits of this growth reaches to the common man”.
“That is why we are moving on many fronts at the same time, aware of the linkages that make up a comprehensive strategy”.
Referring to the positive image of the country in the world, PM Modi said the reason for it was “not Modi but you, my brothers and sisters living in foreign countries”.
